To select the proper gasket for replacement, first, determine if the gasket to be
replaced is magnetic or compression (non-magnetic). next, determine if the bottom
of the gasket has a conventional flange held in place by screws of flange strips,
or if it is of the snap in style (with an ‘arrow’ on the bottom to permit the gasket to
be inserted into a retainer strip).
If the gasket you are replacing is magnetic, use a replacement gasket with the proper
clearance dimensions as indicated for each cross section. Also check to be certain
the magnet in the replacement gasket is at the outer edge or is centered in the same
manner as the gasket being replaced. If you are replacing a compression (non-magnetic)
gasket, the gasket cushion should be compressed a minimum of 1/8” (0.3cm)
to a maximum of 3/16” (0.5cm) to obtain the most efficient seal. The replacement
gasket does not necessarily have to look the same as the gasket being replaced.
The important factor is for it to provide a seal.
